If you’ve been following my blog, you’ve probably noticed that I normally wear make-up. Or perhaps you read about it here when I talked about how I do this because I believe in the phrase “if you look good, you feel good, you sell good.” Truth be told, when I actually get dressed for the day, I am WAY more productive and it’s one of the reasons I started blogging again. It gives me a reason to do my hair and a way to express myself (virtually). I know, to some, this may sound really silly, but when you’re working from home, taking care of a toddler and you don’t see the outside world as much as you used to, you have to become creative in ways that will make you feel your best and, for me, that’s having myself put together and also sharing this journey of motherhood.
When I posted about working from home last week, I planned on doing a blog post about the reason behind why I try to put make-up on every day. Because there’s something to be said about the feeling you get when you actually shower and do your hair and make-up…even when you have no place to go. I mean let’s be real, as a mom, the days when I shower in peace and actually get myself ready, is kind of the same feeling I get when it’s 4:00 on a Friday, or the feeling you get when you are about to go on a vacation. It feels good. I don’t know why, but I want to encourage you to try it. That brings me to the hashtag #getdressedgirl and where I discovered this. So here’s the story:
I went to Wal-Mart the other day and found these shirts on sale for $1. (unfortunately, they aren’t on sale on the website so check your local store first, but if not, they are still a great price for an amazing soft shirt.) Anyways over the weekend I dressed up one of the shirts, posted a photo on instagram and a girl liked my post. I don’t know what sparked my curiosity about this particular blogger (it was probably the inner hypochondriac in me because her instagram name is themommymd). I clicked the link on her blog and her first post was on her “Wal-Mart finds”. My first thought was “did we just become best friends?” This is probably why she liked my post in the first place. 🙂 Then I started reading more and those of you who know me personally know it takes a lot for me to cry, but her story really got to me. I sat there for about 30 minutes reading her blog and couldn’t stop.
Abby is also a mama with a boy around Brady’s age and she is a cancer survivor. She is also a new mom blogger like me and a thrift store girl at heart. She recently did a post where, I swear, she took all of the thoughts out of my head about “how to be your best dressed self”. She said it way better than I ever could so check out her post here. Y’all this is exactly why I try to do my make-up everyday. If you’re not one of those people who feel the need to get all dolled up, I just encourage you to try just putting your make-up on, fixing your hair, throwing on a cute outfit or all of the above. In her post she shares the hashtag #getdressedgirl so along with Abby, I am encouraging my readers to do the same. Get out of the mom leggings, shower, get dressed, post your picture on Instagram and hashtag it #getdressedgirl.
PS: I don’t know Abby personally, but I did reach out to her before I posted this and her blog will now be one of my daily reads. When you become a blogger and try to connect with other blogger moms similar to you, your inner stalker comes out! Ha! In all seriousness though, I can guarantee if you are a follower of my blog, you will LOVE hers so go show the love and head on over to her page here.
Thanks for reading!
